For Kosel in primary

Through five terms in the Illinois House, state Rep. Renée Kosel has shown herself to be a conscientious and hard-working legislator for sections of Will County and southwest Cook County that include some of Illinois' fastest-growing communities.
Kosel, a New Lenox Republican, would probably describe herself as a moderate conservative who's against tax increases and takes a pro-life position but who would like to see something done to change the state's funding formula for public schools. Before her first House election in 1996, Kosel was a local board of education member and she's always fought hard for schools in the district.
She has continued to lobby for the schools, as well as local transportation projects. In recent months, Kosel has taken the initiative to help Homer Glen residents with their skyrocketing water bills; she sponsored legislation that would allow local municipalities to buy privately run water companies if they go on the market. It's another example of Kosel being responsive to district residents.
Because of Kosel's fine record, The Star endorses her in the March 21 Republican primary.
House Republicans recently named Kosel to a leadership position. That was done largely because of her stand on ethics legislation. She is one of a group of Republicans who took a stand on ethics reform and has been trying to change the party in the aftermath of scandals left over from the administration of former Gov. George Ryan.
Chris McNeil, Kosel's primary opponent, has been attempting to portray her as a legislator who's proposed new taxes. He's also tried to tie Kosel to ongoing investigations into ethics abuse.
We don't believe that his charges stick. Kosel has served her legislative district well and we believe she deserves the support of Republicans in the primary.
